Vote Herb Doby for Mayor

I was born and raised in Goshen County. My wife, Becky, and I, have been blessed with two daughters and three grandchildren. I graduated from the University of Wyoming and the University of Wyoming School of Law. I have practiced law in Torrington for 19 years.

I was born in Torrington in 1954. My parents were Ken and Helen Doby. My father was the Goshen County Sheriff from 1955 to 1971. He was then the Goshen County Undersheriff from 1975 until his retirement in 1987. I was raised in the Sheriff’s apartment directly under the old Goshen County Jail and next to the Goshen County Courthouse. Those were the days when the Courthouse lawn was strewn with the cigar butts of the local attorneys, including Stan Hathaway, the future governor of Wyoming. Stan was one of my favorites and I saw him the most because he was the County Attorney. Governor Hathaway provided my letter of reference for my admission to law school at the University of Wyoming. I have been involved in politics in one way or another all of my life. As a child, I patrolled the county with my father who passed on to me much wisdom as to how the world is supposed to work and how it actually does. I am eternally grateful for both my parents and the wisdom they passed on to my two sisters and me.

I am Torrington born and bred. There are people I encounter daily that I don’t remember not knowing!

 

My Political Philosophy

• I believe the strength of our nation lies with individual liberty and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability, responsibility and property must be honored by all and protected by government.
• I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age, or disability.
• I believe that free enterprise, individual initiative, and our natural resources have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
• I believe governments must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
• I believe the proper role of government is to provide only those Constitutional functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs the least.
• I believe the most effective, and responsive government is closest to the people. We the People grant powers to our governments – local, state and national – not the other way around.
• I believe Americans must stand on the principals that made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times, free from arbitrary force.
• I believe Americans value, and should preserve, our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
